Centralian Carpet Python, Red-capped Robin, and a very cool sunset

I was staying with some friends in the rural area of Alice Springs and went to collect the eggs from the chook pen this morning. I walked in, turned left and stopped. There was one of the chooks in one corner, and a really, really, big snake in the other corner of the chook pen. I backed out of the chook pen, ran back to the house and grabbed my camera, hoping it hadn't moved. I was very happy it had stayed still, and took a few photos. Here is one of them:

I went with my Dad and brother to Redbank Gorge a few weeks ago camping overnight and saw this beautiful Red-capped Robin

I was at my mum's place a few weeks ago and saw some fantastic colours at sunset. I love the shadow part of the photos. Not sure what created it, but I thought it looked pretty cool.

Fairy Penguins and Budgerigars

At Phillip Island Nobbies we found a adult  Fairy Penguin under the board walk.
 We also saw some moulting penguins

My brief encounter with a male red kangaroo joey

This morning when my dad and I were leaving the house, we found this beautiful little joey feeding on one some of the plants in the front yard. It seemed pretty tame, and eventually I managed to sit close enough to pat it. Dad rang a friend who came around and said it was a young male red kangaroo. She was a carer so she took it back home with her, but not before dad took a few photos and a video. It was a really lovely surprise to start the day.

Top End Trip Bird Photos - Alice Springs to Edith Falls

My Dad and I drove to Darwin. I was supposed to be playing cricket with my brother, but I had a small fracture in my arm and had to go with dad instead of the team on the bus.

We hadn't gone more than 5 kilometres from Alice Springs when I asked Dad to stop. It was only a Black-shouldered Kite. The first day and night we drove about half way, to Longreach Waterhole near Elliott. Here are some photos, starting with a Lifer for me, the Jacky Winter.

We stopped off at Bitter Springs near Mataranka and I saw another of my favourite birds, the Lemon-bellied Flycatcher

We saw a few other birds between Elliott and Edith Falls, but I finally managed some nice photos of the Finches on Edith Falls Road.

Day 1 and 2 on our trip were fantastic fun, even with the broken arm. The Gouldian Finches were a bit quick for my camera to focus, but as you will read in future posts, I did finally manage to capture them too.
